  • Replace each letter of the alphabet with a unique letter, number, or symbol
  • You can also use any of the following special characters for your code: ! @ # $ % ^ * ( ) + = < > ' ;
  • Do not use any special character that is not on that list - many special characters cause problems for the decoder
  • Be sure to give your code a name

    General tips:
    

    • If your message is going to include numbers, and the numbers are important, don't use a code that includes numbers in the code itself. Use a simpler code such as "gibberish secret" to encode your message.

    Tips for making codes and coded messages hard to crack:
    

    • There are code breaking programs out there that can, in just a few seconds, break long messages coded using this method, but the following tips can help you prevent that:
    • Use as many numbers and symbols as possible when you create your code(within the acceptable list of symbols of course)
    • Keep your messages short - short messages are hard to crack
    • Mispell as many words as possible
    • Don't include the name of your code at the top of your text - cut if off (duh)
    • Change codes every other line or every other word, or every 3 words, or anything like that
